Walk faster, stay healthy

Wednesday - June 6, 2018 1:17 pm , Category : HEALTH

June 05 (WTN) - Start moving at a fast pace if you want to live longer and healthier. This reduces the risk of death from heart diseases.

The results of research show that walking by average speed reduces the mortality rate of heart diseases by 21 percent and the decrease of 24 percent in the death rate of people who walk at high-speed has been observed. Compared with slow pace, walking at an average speed reduces the risk of all types of mortality by 20 percent, while walking at a faster pace reduces the risk of all types of mortality by 24 percent.

Emmanuel Stamatakis, professor of the Charles Perkins Center and School of Public Health at Sydney University, said that the effects of sex or body mass index on the results do not show, walking at an average or faster speed specially reduces the risk of all types of mortality. However there is no such evidence, that walking faster has an impact on cancer death rates.

He said that fast speeds are usually 5 to 7 kilometers per hour, but it really depends on the fitness level of the walker.
