Top ten romantic movies of all times

April 26 (WTN) - There can be a fierce debate on which of the high ranking movies of the world could be called the best romantic movies of all time. But by popular viewers’ choice there can be some winners, though they may not be chronologically in the top 10 order as the ground to decide so is slippery and depends on the subjective appreciation that varies from person to person, culture to culture.

Here goes the list:

1. Titanic: James Cameron’s magnum opus Titanic is not only one of the highest grosser of all time, it also happens to be one of the most loved and most seen of romantic classics. The 1997 click essayed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have to be the ultimate love story passing through a rollercoaster ride of adventure and a heartbreaking mishap.



2. The Notebook: This film is often touted by viewers and critics as one of the best in the romantic series. The 2004 flick directed by Nick Cassavetes, the film is a story of a poor guy in love with a rich woman but are soon separated after a passionate involvement, due to their social differences.



3. Casablanca: One cannot miss the charm of Casablanca and it has to be high up on the list of the best romantics. This Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman starrer 1942 film is a story of feelings of a couple separated by war and the influence of a third person in one’s life.



4. Gone with the wind: The 1939 American epic film on the backdrop of the American civil war is a heart-wrenching creation by Victor Fleming, adapted from the novel with the same name. The film is all about the passionate romanticism of a spoilt girl for a married man.


 
5. Roman holiday: No list can be complete without 1953’s Roman Holiday directed by William Wyler. It is a story of a princess escaping from her confinement and falling in frenetic love with an American news reporter in Rome.



6. Shakespeare in love: Released in 1998, the film is an intense story of the early life of Shakespeare when he is short of ideas and cash and falls in love with the woman of her life that leads him to create some of his best dramas.



7. P.S. I love you: The hopelessly romantic drama released in 2007 may not be considered a classic but still it is a must watch for moviegoers. Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler are memorable for eternity. It is the story of a dying husband who leaves scores of letters for his beloved wife to guide her after his death. She comes across these letters in unexpected ways after his death and at the end of every letter is written P.S. I love you.



8. Before sunrise: The 1995 film is a soft romantic directed by Richard Linklater and played by Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy. It is a story of hooking up in Vienna with both the lovers knowing that it would be there only night together.
 


9. The French Lieutenant’s Woman: Though it missed the Academy awards despite getting five nominations, this 1981, Karel Reisz romantic drama went on the win 10 major awards including the coveted Golden Globes. Meryl Steep and Jeremy Irons are exceptional in their renditions. It is a story about an English biologist engaged to be married but who falls in love with an outcast woman Sarah.



10. The Piano: Winner of three Oscar awards, The Piano is a 1993 film that revolves around the love story of a mute woman with a local plantation worker though her marriage was arranged with a wealthy landowner.
