Benny Dayal the famous Indian singer, was in Bhopal on Sunday for performing at the AISECT University for the final day of their Rhythm 2017 program. We at WTN had a great time conversing with him about his life and music…
Q: Was being a singer always your dream since childhood?
A: Well, from the age of 13, I was in love with music, it was my childhood dream and of course I became a singer, very few people live their childhood dream and I am one of them.
Q: Who is your Ideal?
A: I respect AR Rehman the most, it was once when A R Rahman told me just record a track and keep as he was busy, so I did, but surprisingly when the song released, It was in my voice, AR Rehman never sang that song when actually he was supposed to sing it. It was the best birthday gift from A R Rehman as eventually, it was my birthday.
Q: What song is your favourite?
A: My favourite is ‘Kaise mujhe tum mil gaye’ from Ghajini.
Q: Well if that is your favourite song would you like to dedicate it to someone in your life?
A: Yes sure, I would dedicate the song ‘Kaise mujhe tum mil gaye’ to my wife!
Q:Apart from singing, what musical instruments do you play?
A: I play quite a few instruments out of which I am good at the guitar and the Hawaiian Ukelele
Q: Do you think that as the era has changed, the lyrics have also changed and become meaningless?
A: Basically today's era is very busy, in the olden time's people had enough time to listen to shayaris and think what they mean, but today people want something which they listen and start tapping their feet to the rhythm, and that’s what I give them
