Bhopal: Bujhram Korku and his wife Maya are agricultural labourers in Ajnas Raiyat village of Harda district. Their son Om was suffering from congenital heart disease due to which he lagged behind in all activities as he was unable to walk much. His parents considered their son’s illness as his fate as they were financially not in a position to get him treated in the city.

Om Korku grew up to be 11 years old with this disease. When a team of National Child Health Programme reached Ajnas Raiyat village, villagers told them about Om and his disease. The team members met Om and his parents and after understanding the whole case called them to attend at a health camp at Harda district headquarters. Bujhram and his wife took Om to the camp where senior doctors examined him. After examination it was confirmed that Om was suffering from a serious heart disease, the treatment of which is possible only though Mitral Valve Surgery (MVR).

Doctors told Bujhram that Om was capable of being completely cured and can even play around once he undergoes a small operation. Seeing Bujhram’s concern over the expense involved in the surgery they told him that he need not worry as the entire expense will be borne by the National Child Health Programme. Only then did Bujhram and his wife Maya got ready for their son’s operation.

After a successful surgery, now Om Korku is perfectly well and can walk, play and run like other children of his age and is perfectly hale and hearty.

Doctors’ team is regularly visiting schools and anganwadi kendras under National Child Health Programme in Harda district and is diagnosing and treating children suffering such diseases. In the last one year about 20 children have undergone free successful operations through this programme in the district.-Window To News
