18 years in jail, released, still wants to go back to jail.

Monday - February 5, 2018 4:00 pm , Category : WTN SPECIAL

In a bizarre incident a person named Pushkar Dutt Bhatt urged administration to allow him to return to jail.

Pushkar Dutt Bhatt was released in 2017 after the sentence for homicide of his wife and daughter 20 years ago. His village Bastadi in Pithoragarh, Uttrakhand became an abandoned village after being ravaged by floods in July 2016 leading to the death of 21 persons. The entire village was rehabilitated in a place called Thulkhali.

But, what about Pushkar Dutt Bhatt? His property too was ravaged in flood but the administration has left him in a lurch. According to administration his compensation was released by then government but was returned back as no one came to claim it. He has been living in isolation since last year. Just because he is a criminal, does not mean that he has no right to live? It is pertinent to mention that the jail administration had reduced his term due to good conduct.

Now, Pushkar has appealed to be sent back to the jail in Sitarganj, Uddham Singh Nagar, where he was sentenced. He feels he will live comfortably in jail as there is neither water nor electricity in the village.

It’s appalling that even after 70 years of independence; someone feels that he can live a better life in jail then outside. Good time to introspect about the “value of human life”.

Will the administration should wake up at least now ?
