Saturday - February 10, 2018 4:30 am , Category : MADHYA PRADESH

Bhopal: Due to scanty rains in Narmada river catchment area this year limited volume of water could be stored in the dam reservoirs constructed on Narmada. Due to this situation, it is not possible for water outflow as per the demand of Gujarat state. Madhya Pradesh has agreed to the fact that14 M.C.M water being released every day for the last few months will be released in future also. This water is being released by running of power production units for 18 hours. It is not possible to release more water.

Currently, Indira Sagar reservoir has 2790 MCM and Bargi reservoir has 2145 MCM water storage. The water let out from Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar reservoirs daily is being used to supply drinking water downstream and to fulfill other needs.

Keeping in mind the need of water currently and for coming months in Madhya Pradesh, Narmada water is being let out in a controlled manner so that water can be stored for future use in dams etc. Gujarat has been told to use the water collected in Sardar Sarovar in addition to the 14 M.C.M water released daily by Madhya Pradesh.-Window To News
