Nutrition Awareness should be included in curriculum: Minister Smt. Chitnis

‘Bhopal Declaration-Letter’ issued at conclusion of International Workshop on Nutrition Awareness 

Bhopal: Minister for Child and Woman Development Smt. Archana Chitnis has said that Nutrition Awareness subject will be included in school and college curriculum of the state. Ensuring nutrition security in each house and family is a prime objective of Nutrition conscious agriculture and nutrition awareness. Smt. Chitnis was addressing the concluding programme of the 3 day International workshop at Bhopal.

Smt. Chitnis further mentioned that improvement in the condition of nutrition is a social and moral responsibility of this era. The future generation will be affected if we overlook it. She stated that along with the Woman and Child Development department, efforts are being made constantly by the agriculture, animal husbandry, food and civil supplies and school education department in a coordinated manner to bring improvement in the condition of nutrition. Smt. Chitnis said that the conclusions obtained from the six sessions in the workshop i.e. agriculture, nutrition management, planned initiative, social and practical innovations and works to be carried out in the field of nutrition have been included in Bhopal Declaration Letter.

Former Chairman of National Women Commission, Smt. Lalita Kumar Mangalam expressed that 67 percent, out of the total agriculture labourers are women. She emphasized the need for designing agricultural equipment and agricultural machinery according to the convenience of women.

At the concluding programme, Deputy Director General of Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Dr. A.K. Singh mentioned that the initiative of Madhya Pradesh in the field of nutrition conscious agriculture and nutrition awareness is exemplary for other states of the country. Singh further said that the Tejasvini like other groups should be developed and Nutrition Thali, Tiranga Thali, and idea about kitchen garden should be publicized from house to house and practiced. There is a need for constant efforts in this direction. Dr. Meera Mishra stated that malnutrition is a global problem. She put forth her views to identify malnutrition, constant monitoring and capacity development of women groups.

Bhopal Declaration Letter was issued in the workshop. Principal Secretary Woman and Child Development J.N. Kansotiya, Abhay Mahajan of Deendayal Research Institute-Delhi, Atul Jain, Director of Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Atari-Jabalpur Dr. Anupam Mishra, Head of UNICEF Madhya Pradesh Michael Juma and Commissioner of Directorate Woman and Child Development Dr. Ashok Kumar Bhargava were present in the workshop.

UNICEF, International Fund for Agriculture Development, GIZ organization of Germany, International Rice Research Institute, Global Environment Facilitator Project, International Institute for Maize and Wheat participated in the workshop.

Smt. Archana Chitnis honoured all the subject experts at the concluding programme. Commissioner, Directorate of Woman and Child Development Dr. Ashok Bhargava proposed the vote of thanks.-Window To News
