433 percent rise in irrigation through canals in 14 years in state

Bhopal: The percentage of irrigation through canals in Madhya Pradesh has increased to 40 lakh hectare. This was hardly 7.5 lakh hectares in year 2003. Public Relations and Water Resources Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra told that there is 433 percent rise in irrigation work through canals in the last 14years.

Dr. Mishra told that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take stock of the works being undertaken in the irrigation areas in Madhya Pradesh on coming Saturday, June 23. It may be noted that this information was given by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at a programme organized in Rajgarh district on Wednesday. The Prime Minister will dedicate the Mohanpura irrigation scheme of Rajgarh district on this day. About 8 lakh acre area will be irrigated through Mohanpura and Kundaliya irrigation schemes in Rajgarh district. The drinking water problem of these areas close to the dam will be solved through these two schemes.

Dr. Mishra told that steps are being taken for the implementation of new irrigation projects every month in the state. The state government will make arrangements for proper rehabilitation on priority basis in case people are displaced due to these irrigation projects. AS per the need for various projects, the displaced are also given special rehabilitation package so that they are able to spend their lives in a new settlement with more facilities compared to their old settlements. In the series of approval of new irrigation schemes, the Cabinet has taken decisions for approval of irrigation schemes and essential finance of Dindori and Damoh district.-Window To News
