Terms & Techniques of Drinks recipes, You should know

(WTN) While preparing a drink, several terms and techniques are being used which we ignores or know little about. But if you want to get best of your drink then you should know some important terms and techniques. Here are some frequently used terms and techniques:

Muddling:

Muddling is basically the pressing and squeezing of fruits, herbs and other sold ingredients. A muddler can be used for muddling process.
Muddling soft fruits like berries is fairly obvious. Muddling citrus fruits like lemon, orange, grapefruit etc is normally done with sugar. Sugar is working on skin of fruit and extracting all the essential oils that are stored inside.
Muddling of herbs like mint and basil, be very gentle, press very lightly and make sure you don’t squashed the herbs.
 

Garnishing:

Garnishing is related with decoration. Try your drink looks as good as possible. Many cocktails call for special garnishes, this is not really so with mocktails. Always select suitable garnishes for our drinks. Don’t use anything for garnishing that you wouldn’t put in our mouth.
 

Shaking:

Always use good quality shaker like boston shaker. While Shaking follow the steps-
 
Put all your ingredients in glass part of shaker and fill the shaker with ice, place the metal part on top and tap it down with the heel of your hand so that it firmly closed.

Turn the shaker over so that the glass part is on top. Put one hand in top and other in bottom then shake the shaker properly.

While finished shaking, hold the whole shaker in the middle with one hand, make sure you hold it properly. Use the other hand to tap the metal part where the glass should inside, this breaks the seal and allows you to lift the glass part.


Straining:

To strain a drink after been shaken, place a strainer over the top of the shaker or mixing glass. Hold the shaker firmly in your hand with your fore and middle fingers securing the strainer in place.
 

Double Straining:

If you are serving a drink straight up means without ice then you may want to filter out the seeds, pips, small bit of leafs and tiny shards of ice that not be stopped by strainer. When pouring the drink from the shaker through the strainer, hold a fine mesh strainer with your hand between shaker and glass, to catch any more bit or pieces. - Window To News
