Making nutrition a public movement need of the hour: Minister Smt. Chitnis

Implementation of nutrition action plan from September 25
Workshop held to determine policy and methodology 

Bhopal: The Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Archana Chitnis has said that nutrition is a big challenge for all sections of society today. The ill-effects of lack of nutrition is apparent in different forms in both villages and cities. According to the resolution of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, various awareness activities are being organized in the month of September to make nutrition a mass movement. Making nutrition a mass movement is the need of the hour. She said that the reality is that the issues that the society accepts only take the form of mass movement. The government can only be a catalyst. From this point of view the activities undertaken for nutrition should be implemented. Smt. Chitnis said that campaigns like Prasad se Poshan, Teri Thali-Meri ThaliLalima Abhiyan, Haan, Maine Maa ka Doodh Piya Hai, Ghar Mein Jo Khana Hai-Usse Bachhe koi Khilana Hai, Panchwati se Poshan etc. are attempts being made in this direction. Smt. Chitnis said that religious leaders and political parties should fulfil their responsibilities to create awareness on nutrition.

Minister Smt. Chitnis was addressing a workshop held at Vatsalya Bhavan on Saturday to determine the future policy and methodology of nutrition–rich agriculture and nutrition awareness. She said that an action plan on the activities to be implemented at community level will be presented on September 22 and the action plan will be implemented in the state from September 25 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

Renowned Environmentalist Dr. Vandana Shiva, Atul Jain of Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi, Senior Scientist of Indian Council of Agricultural Research S.R.K. Singh, Principal Secretary Women and Child Development J. N. Kansotiya, Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Mahila Vitta Vikas Nigam Smt. Sonali Waigankar, Commissioner Women and Child Development Dr. Ashok Kumar Bhargav, Dr. Nachiketa and Dr. Sheela Bhambhal also expressed their views at the workshop. Representatives and development partners of Women and Child Development Department, along with Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Health Department also took part in the workshop.

Role of media in developing the strategy of nutrition management and nutrition awareness and community participation in coordination with different departments and stakeholders in the context of Bhopal Declaration was discussed during the workshop. Among the prominent points discussed in the workshop were nutrition-sensitive agriculture and food security, appropriate policy formation and management, food production and village-level business activities, improvement in nutrition levels of mother and child, breastfeeding and additional diet and nutrition awareness.-Window To News
