On Tourism Day, Madhya Pradesh has many reasons to celebrate

Friday - September 28, 2018 5:53 pm , Category : TRAVEL

WTN- Among other things Madhya Pradesh is known for, it’s sobriquet as the ‘heart of India’ is the most iconic in the tourism parlance.

Not only the state is geographically at the centre of the country, metaphorically, it is the goodness of its heart and the spirit of assimilation of its people that makes it the land of the golden heart for tourists that flock to it from all parts of the world in good numbers.

Over the last 10 years the state has done exceptionally well in the tourism sector, thanks to the targeted and time bound policies of the government and its aggressive promotion. Not only tourist influx has increased, tourism facilities have also seen a sea change, which has placed MP in the league of the best tourism destinations of India. It is doing way better than some traditionally frontline tourism friendly states like Maharashtra or Andhra Pradesh or even Gujarat.

The board and lodging facilities as provided by the MP Tourism Development Corporation resorts are some of the best in south Asia. They are clean, safe, cheap, ambient, self-sufficient and strategically located to give the best experience to the guest.

Apart from these hotels, roads have drastically improved in the state and this makes communication a breeze. People like to take these roads to exquisite destinations and bask in the peaceful abodes in the jungles and on the hills. Power supply, law and order, railway communication, mobile telephony and internet – all the condiments needed to make a place touristy have been spread and improved across the state.

People's World in Bhopal is the biggest theme park of MP and a spot for destination wedding.. It has giant replicas of the Taj Mahal,  Taj Hotel of Mumbai, Burj Khalifa Dubai, Statue of Liberty along with Red Fort, Lotus Temple and many more  other attractions.

MP has not only the best maintained national parks, it also has heritage forts and buildings, historical temples and relics, caves, trekking tracks, waterfalls, religious hubs and hill stations, which make it a complete and perfect tourist package for the traveler.

The success of its tourism project can also be gauged from the fact that a large number of big ticket films and serials have been shot here over the last few years and everyone has praised the excellent tourist facilities in the state. MP has also been awarded by the Centre as the most film friendly state. Yet, despite the strides made from ground up, there is much more needed to make MP the top billing state in tourism, as Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Bengal, Maharashtra are still ahead of us in tourist numbers.

There has to be better promotion and publicity of our tourist spots, which is an area we are not putting much thrust on. There has to be more diverse facilities for recreation, which is not there. We still largely bank on the natural beauties and assets but entertainment, food and diversification are still areas we lack in.

Now that the basics are well in place, the government needs to remove the bottlenecks that are holding us back from being at the top. A little tweaking here and there, a more pro-active stance and some innovative measures can work wonders.
