US envoy visits India-Bangladesh border

Agartala Oct 11 (IANS) US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster on Thursday visited the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura as part of his maiden visit to the northeast.
"The Ambassador visited the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Agartala-Akhaura border along the India-Bangladesh frontier and attended the beating retreat ceremony. As part of his cultural outreach he also visited the impressive Tripura State Museum housed in 117-years-old Ujjayanta Palace here " a state government official said.
The US Ambassador during his brief interaction with the media said that Tripura has a huge potential in the tourism sector but he suggested development of infrastructure.
"I am charmed after witnessing and learning the culture and heritage of Tripura " the envoy said.
Juster along with other US officials reached here on Wednesday on a two-day tour. He met Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and discussed various developmental issues of the state.
An official release said: "This visit is a testimony of strengthening bilateral relation between India and the US. This tour of top US envoy would play an instrumental role ensuring further synergy in the India-US relations."
Juster was appointed by President Donald Trump in November 2017 as the 25th US Ambassador to India.
