Protect yourself, kids from allergy

Wednesday - November 28, 2018 9:58 pm , Category : WTN SPECIAL

There are various allergic reactions on our body and body metabolism which we are not always even aware of Our interaction with the ecology and the environment around us affects us in various ways – both good and bad. Just like air gives us oxygen, the chill in the air also gives us cold. It depends on our knowledge and our ways of interacting with nature and the environment we build around us that decide our health coordinates. Doctors believe that 40 per cent children in our urban areas and at least 20 per cent of their peers in villages suffer from one kind of allergy or the other.

There can be various kinds of allergies like skin allergies or blood allergies, but the most common are the allergies that hit our respiratory tract. It is the most vulnerable part of our body to be hit by allergic reactions, be it due to dust or pollen, smoke or smell, snow, rain or cold air. Doctors advice to keep the air inside houses and offices clean and well circulated. Stuffy and claustrophobic interiors not privy to sunlight and fresh air for long are more prone to breed chances of various respiratory infections.

The living and bed rooms should always be well ventilated with regular infusion of fresh outside air. If the smoke and dust of the house keep lingering in the air we breathe, the coagulated mix is bound to enter our trachea through the nostrils and create sensations inside that in turn lead to runny nose, headache and fever due to subsequent allergic development inside. There is also food allergy that is a major allergic source. Certain food items don’t suit certain people and they must stop eating such food. That’s the only way. Milk, egg, wheat are some common things which cause allergies in young children and thus these food must not be given to them.

There are various ointments, medicines and lotions of common use that may cause skin and other allergies to their users and people must test those products first applying on a small skin area, or take medical advice if one is prone to allergies, before using them. Children whose parent are allergic to certain things are most likely to be affected more or less by the same, while those with one parent having propensity to get allergies easily, hold 30-40 per cent chance of getting so. Therefore, those with allergic history at home must be more cautious and discerning while using certain products or consuming specific food items. These people must keep way from extremities of heat and cold and also from places which are dank and unventilated so that they have more of fresh air all the time.

There is no specific cause attributed to allergies except that the immune system wrongly recognises certain elements as threats and releases chemicals to fight them that trigger the reactions. Unfortunately, there is no very specific or impeccable treatment to stop allergies; they can only be controlled to some extent by medicines/drops or the pain/ inconvenience can only be lessened.

The best way is ultimately is to take care of our vulnerabilities, be aware of the dos and don’ts regarding the triggers that spike allergies and take the proper precautions and medications once there is an allergic attack. Family members must be well aware of each other’s allergic possibilities and act accordingly to safeguard from possible triggers /allergens and also come in handy during an allergy bout of any of the members.-Window To News
