Initiative to call people working in other places to vote proves successful
Bhopal: Ramesh Damor of Kardavad Badi of Jhabua district is one among the thousands of voters who were out of the district in connection with work, but returned to their villages on November 28 and voted. Ramesh said that he had got a paid holiday on the day of polling and Jhabua district administration was had asked him and his employer to come to the village to vote. As a result his employer gave him a holiday to come to his village and also gave his salary for the day. Ramesh says that thousands of voters who are working in cities of Rajasthan and Gujarat came to their villages on the polling day.
On the instructions of the Chief Electoral Officer, Madhya Pradesh, the District Election Officer and Collector, Jhabua took a special initiative to call people who had gone out to other cities to come back to vote so that 100 percent voting could be ensured in the Assembly Election -2018. For this, 11 groups of government servants were constituted and sent to different places between October 16 and 22, where labourers from the district had gone to work. Officers and employees of these parties held discussions with the labourers of Jhabua district and their employers, companies and institutions.
After this, institutions and employers granted paid leave to the labourers and agreed to let them go home to their village for voting.
Jamsingh of Sanodh village told that he was happy to get a holiday with pay and he came from Gujarat to his village for voting. Rakesh and Kavita of village Chormandali told that they did not know that the polling was on November 28. Officials from Jhabua district told them and they came to vote.
This innovative initiative to bring voters working out of Jhabua district proved effective and thousands of voters exercised their franchise.
Voters did not have to stand in queue, seating arrangement was available
Qless voting among the innovations also proved significant for voting this time in Jhabua district. In this, pink and yellow tokens were printed by the district administration. Women and men were given pink and yellow tokens respectively and asked to sit on chairs, cots etc. and wait for their turn. Smt. Anita Ramawat of Officers Colony, Jhabua told that she did not have to stand in line for voting this time. She along with others accompanying her sat waiting on the chairs comfortably with their tokens and voted when their turns came.
Festive atmosphere in Adarsh polling centre
A festive atmosphere prevailed in the Adarsh polling centres made in the district. These centres were decorated with colourful balloons and comfortable chairs were arranged for the voters. Hemendra Vyas, Pushpak Sameer said that the arrangements made by the Election Commission at these centres made us feel festive.
Faliya nu Jatra campaign successful
A Faliya nu Jatra campaign was also launched to make voters understand the process of house-to-house polling and the process of voting with EVM and VVPAT. In each assembly area, Four vehicles each with slogans written all over and EVMs and VVPAT machines reached every house in Faliya-Faliya and gave information to the voters.
