WTN- Glaucoma, also known as black glaucoma, is a disease that can even lead to vision loss, if ignored. According to the World Health Organization, the number of patients reported suffering from Glaucoma is increasing every year. In India too, the number of people who are losing their sight because of glaucoma is worrisome. With the aim of increasing its awareness in general public January is celebrated as the Glaucoma Awareness Month. Keeping this in mind, CII-YI took an initiative and planned a Glaucoma Awareness Program for this entire month for its members. This information was given during a press conference held on Thursday, January 10.
In this press conference, Bansal Hospital, Bhopal's Senior Specialist Dr. Vinita Ramnani, CIIYI's Chairman Saurabh Sharma and Chair Apoorva Malviya gave detailed information about this topic.
Dr. Vinita Ramnani told that glaucoma is the second largest cause of blindness after cataract in India and about 1.2 million people suffer from it. According to an estimate, about 1.5 lakh people have lost their eyesight due to this reason. He told that many such cases of vision loss or blindness are coming out in which, if treated timely, the eyesight could be saved but due to lack of awareness this disease is taking a fearful form.
Saurabh Sharma of CII-YI said on this occasion that anyone from newborn children to the elderly could come in the grip of Glaucoma. Generally, it's cases are seen in people with more than 40 years of age. He said that though treatment of glaucoma has now been much easier than before, despite this it is necessary that you are alert and know about its causes. He said that if anybody in your family has glaucoma, then you should definitely have your examination.
CIIYI's co-chair Apoorva Malviya said that prevention has always been a better option than treatment for any disease. Just like people go for regular checkups, they should also take due care for their eyes with timely tests and being aware of preventive measures for diseases like Glaucoma per se. He said that keeping this thing in mind, this awareness program has been created. Under this, Glaucoma Awareness Program, seminars will be organized from time to time for the members of CII.
Giving further information about the symptoms of glaucoma, Dr. Vinita Ramnani said that if small eyes or colored spots start appearing in front of the eyes, sharp pain in the eyes, dizziness or nausea is experienced or the side vision is low then do not ignore and get immediate consultation from your doctor. These are the symptoms of glaucoma. Check the symptoms immediately as they appear. Often when the patient realizes that the sight becomes weak, it is very late.
