Saturday - January 19, 2019 8:55 pm , Category : WTN SPECIAL

WTN:- Wheatgrass is put under food category which is obtained from cotyledons of the wheat plant. The dark green leafy plant is small in size and fragile too. After a few days of plantation, the above surface part of the plant gets ready to be used for juice if homemade, or else in market fresh juice, frozen juice, tablets and powder concentrate forms are available. Apart from these, wheatgrass spray, cream, gel, massage lotion and a liquid herbal forms are sold in markets. Similar to most of the green plants, wheatgrass is rich in vitamins, chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, and enzymes.

Wheatgrass is probably the most nutritious substance on the planet according to claims made about it without any scientific study to prove any. Though the history of the wheatgrass consumption goes as back as 5,000 years in ancient Egypt, the Western World was introduced to it around 1930 when Charles Schnabel (American nutritionist mentioned in introduction) attempted to popularise the plant.  Later Ann Wigmore, a nutritionist and founder of Hippocrates Health Institute, believed that wheatgrass consumption detoxified the body as well as provided a balanced diet of nutrients. She also considered wheatgrass to be a whole food and can fight against serious ailments. Wheatgrass is grown indoors and outdoors both. Yet in both ways, direct harsh rays of the Sun can harm it. Keeping the seeds moist for a few days, wheatgrass can be obtained after a split developed in the leaf which is emergence of another leaf. The leaf above root are cut and used to make juice or other substances.  The foremost claim about wheatgrass is cancer prevention. A small study conducted 2002 showed some evidence of helping out with symptoms of ulcerative colitis. Another study, in same year, supported notion that wheatgrass reduces the side-effects of chemotherapy done for breast cancer up to a substantial extent.

Wheatgrass indeed is a good source of potassium, rice source of dietary fiber, vitamin A, C, E and K. Other gems in it are thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, pantothenic, acid, iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium. The notable thing about wheatgrass is that it has a negligible amount of protein (lower than one gram per 28 gram). Wheatgrass increases production of hemoglobin which results into increase in red blood cells, improving blood sugar disorders and prevention of bacterial infections. Wheatgrass detoxifies the body with forcing out heavy metals and cancer-causing metals. It brings back natural color of the hair, reduces high blood pressure, improves digestion and reduces cholesterol.

Wheatgrass is used to cure many disorders of urinary tract such as infection and helps to get rid of kidney stone. Common cold, cough, seasonal fever, sore throat, infection, gout, liver disorders, joint pain and chronic skin diseases are improved with regular use of wheatgrass.  The existence of chlorophyll and other essentials make it superfood for treatment of various critical conditions. Fresh juice of wheatgrass consumed while being empty stomach is highly beneficial for the health. However, since wheatgrass consists of around 70 per cent chlorophyll, this makes it very powerful and not easy to digest. Wheatgrass is said to be concentrated form of energy of the Sun. That energy sometimes releases in bad shape and thus wheatgrass shows some side effects. If a person is allergic or sensitive to wheat, he/she should not consume wheatgrass in any form. People allergic to that end up with swollen face or throat.

Some may witness diarrhea if wheatgrass is consumed in excess or in short intervals.  Due to detoxifying property of wheatgrass, some people may also suffer headache and nausea. -Window To News
