Don’t get too dependent on sugar-free tablets

Saturday - March 9, 2019 5:17 pm , Category : LIFESTYLE

Diabetes is one of the leading killers in India and health issues arising out of diabetes is rampant globally. To protect from the possibilities of getting diabetes or exacerbating the situation for those already having it, people start avoiding sugar and use sugar-free tablets available in the market as a ‘safe’ substitute to sugar. It must be remembered that consumption of sugar is not directly related to the initiation or spiking of diabetes, though most people associate the two and panic. The sugar-free tablet manufacturing companies make the best of this misconception.

Diabetes occurs due to a plethora of reasons, including genetic, and it is not unlikely that a person on sugar-free regime for years, too gets the disease in some point of time. To put it in another way, sugar-free tablets are not something that we should encourage in our daily life as an apt substitute of sugar because such dependence on these calorie-free tabs can lead to another set of diseases.

Recently a study conducted by Manitoba University has found that constant consumption of these artificial sweeteners can lead to disturbances in the digestive system. People used to such intake gradually start losing appetite, while ironically in diabetes one is suggested to have food intake at frequent intervals. It has also come to the fore in the study that continual use of artificial sweeteners causes instances of high blood pressure and consequently affects heart health.

Artificial sweeteners generally contain chemicals like aspartame, sucralose and stevia, which are responsible for heart diseases, pressure and sugar. More use of aspartame is related to several neurological diseases as well, of which depression, anxiety and headache are common occurrences.

Excessive sucralose is known to cause stomach ache and even diarrhea in extreme cases. Even as companies aggressively sell their sugar-free tablets and globules, upholding them as best substitutes to sugar, the hidden negatives are kept largely unknown from the common public. However, it doesn’t mean that artificial sugar cubes should be completely shunned.

For weight loss and less sugar intake they perfectly fit our need. Only we have to exercise caution lest we should get too dependent on them and completely stop having anything which has natural sugar content. It is said that with artificial sweetener overuse, a person may not be able to enjoy anything less sweet in taste than what he gets artificially used to.

By that logic sweet fruits or vegetables would taste unpalatable to him, as they will be far less sweet than artificial sweeteners, which is a pitfall against a healthy diet regime. A healthy diet is the best way to ward off diabetes or keep it in control and a healthy diet includes good amount of leafy green vegetables and fruits, which have sugar content as well as enrichment by several other vitamins and minerals that are required for good health. If such a balanced diet is adopted, there is little need for going sugar-free and buy long term worries.
