Mayawati supports draft Bill to curb mob lynching

Saturday - July 13, 2019 2:20 pm , Category : INDIA
Lucknow, July 13 (IANS) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati on Saturday welcomed the Uttar Pradesh Law Commission's draft Bill that seeks stringent punishment for those involved in mob lynching.

"Mob lynching has emerged as a dreadful disease across the country and the loss of lives due to this is a matter of serious concern. In this regard, there is a strong need for a stringent countrywide law, but the Centre's approach towards it is lackadaisical."

The BSP supremo welcomed the submission of a draft Bill by the commission which recommended up to life imprisonment for the crime.

"This disease is a gift of the intention and policy of the governments of not allowing establishment of the rule of law. As a result, not only the Dalits, tribals or the religious minorities, but people from all sections of the society and police are also becoming a victim of mob lynching," Mayawati said.

"Along with drafting strong laws, the BJP will have to develop a strong willpower like the BSP, to strictly enforce the laws. Only then this disease can be curbed," she said.
