Why the doctors angry with the Modi Government?

AUG 03 (WTN) - It is said that doctors are the incarnation of 'God' on earth. But nowadays these ‘God’ of earth is angry with the Modi Government. The reason for the displeasure of doctors is the formation of the National Medical Commission (NMC) in place of Medical Council of India (MCI) by the Modi Government. Let you know that the Modi Government has managed to get pass the National Medical Commission (NMC) bill even after being in the minority in the Rajya Sabha.

You may be wondering that what those reasons are so the doctors from all over the country are opposing the NMC bill? What is the reason that the Modi Government wants to form the NMC in place of the MCI? Now we answer to all these questions.

The Government's argument about this bill is that this bill has been brought only after many conclusions. Actually, the need to bring the NMC in place of the MCI was made, because the NITI Aayog, which had drawn the NMC Bill draft, had objected that most of the doctors in the MCI want elections, so that the doctors' lobby is active. Due to the lobbying of doctors, they can’t pay attention to their basic motives.

The Government argues that the MCI should not have both major work like medical education and doctors' practice. In the year 2016, the Standing Committee on the MCI had said that the MCI's focus is on granting licenses to the colleges. For this reason, the studies of medical college are affected.

After various objections, the Modi Government had started preparations for the formation of the NMC by dissolving the MCI in 2017. In the year 2017, the Supreme Court created a monitoring committee to monitor the activities of the MCI. Then the monitoring committee had told the Health Ministry that the MCI is ignoring the Supreme Court orders. After such developments, the Central Government dissolved the MCI's management committee by bringing an ordinance. After this, the MCI is operating through the Board of Governance.

The Government claims that the National Medical Commission (NMC) bill has been brought to the Parliament to improve the system in the medical field. So far the MCI had working like admission in the medical colleges, medical education, and registration of doctors. Now after passing this bill, all this work will go to the NMC.

But doctors are very angry with this step of the Modi Government. Doctors are opposing this bill for several reasons. Doctors have the objection that under the 32nd provision of the National Medical Bill, community health providers will get a license for treatment of patients. Doctors say that it can endanger the lives of patients. There is also a provision in the National Medical Commission Bill that Ayurveda-Homeopathic doctors will now be able to get allopathic treatment permission after doing bridge courses. Doctors also have objection on this and they say that this will lead to a decline in medical level.

Private medical colleges have been given the right to fix fees of 50 per cent seats in the new bill. Doctors have the objection that this will lead to corruption in private medical colleges. This bill also provides that doctors must pass a test before starting the practice after completing medical studies. Doctors in opposition to this test say that there is no substitute for repeating this test once if one has failed.

The Government's argument between the protesters of doctors is that the National Medical Commission will be able to fulfill the lack of doctors’ problem in the country. Due to this bill, primary health workers will get a license to practice after doing a 6-month medical course, which will allow them to write medicines for normal treatment. This will bring relief to the people in rural areas.

Regarding private medical colleges, the Government argues that due to the right to fix fees of 50 per cent seats, these medical colleges will not face financial constraints and they will be prevented from being closed. The Government has cleared that the Government will fix fees on 58 thousand seats in the current 76 thousand seats of MBBS in the country.

About the new bill, the Modi Government claims that this bill is in the interest of both patients and doctors. There is a huge shortage of doctors in the country at this time, through this bill; the Modi Government wants to meet the shortage of doctors. But doctors are constantly opposing this bill. Doctors argue that this bill will reduce the dignity of the medical profession. However, let’s see about the claims of the Modi Government on the National Medical Commission, whether this new step of the Modi Government will fulfill the lack of doctors’ problem.
