Now the Income Tax Department officers to be cooperative!

AUG 20 (WTN) – As you know that tax payers get upset after hearing the name of Income Tax and the Income Tax Department. This is why, because it has been observed that due to inadvertently common mistake in filing income tax returns, there is a fear in the tax payers due to the notice issued from the Income Tax Department, and the irresponsible behavior of the officials. Income tax payers allege that the notice they receive on the slight mistake in filing income tax returns is caused the fear of penalty; and the 'language' used by the officials of the Income Tax Department, there is a apprehension of being insulted.

But now the Income Tax Department officials will behave in a manner with income tax payers. Actually, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has asked the income tax officials to change their mindset. Finance Minister Sitharaman has given strict instructions that the Income Tax Department should treat the tax payers with leniency. For your information, let you know that amid allegations of 'tax terrorism', the Finance Minister has appealed to remove 'inconsistency' between the officials of the Income Tax Department and tax payers. The Finance Minister hsas asked the officers to change their 'mindset' as well.

In fact, it has been observed that if there is an inadvertent transaction related, or any other mistake in the income tax return from the tax payers, and then all kinds of questions were asked to them, which creates an atmosphere of fear among the honest tax payers. But now taxpayers will get an SMS first on any kind of mistake regarding transaction in income tax return. In this SMS, it would be written that the tax payer has forgotten to give information about his transaction.

Not only this, if there is any other mistake made by the tax payers while filing the income tax return, it will be informed not in threatening words but in easy words. All this is being done, because the tax payers complain that the Income Tax Department officials do not treat them politely if there is any mistake in the income tax return. After receiving all these complaints, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has asked the officials of Income Tax Department to treat the tax payers 'politely'.

But now, if there is any mistake of any kind while filing income tax return from the tax payers, in such a situation, the tax payers will not be given notice immediately. Now in case of any mistake, an SMS will be sent to the tax payers. It is being claimed that the language of this SMS will be 'simple', so that tax payers can easily understand where the mistake was made while filing income tax returns.

Actually, it has been observed that while paying income tax returns, the authorities do not pay attention to the problems of tax payers. It is imperative that the authorities pay attention to the problems of tax payers, and to treat and respect the tax payers respectfully to solve the problems. The tax payers have complained for a long time that the Income Tax Department needs to change the penal attitude and adopt a cooperative attitude.

However, the Finance Minister has clarified that income tax officials will now deal with tax payers well and use 'friendly' language with them, but do not ignore the shortfall if the tax payers have deliberately committed any wrongdoing.

For your information, let you know that in his address on 15th August this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that those who create wealth must be respected. In this context, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has told income tax officials that they should respect those who create wealth. Also, income tax authorities should facilitate tax payers by reducing delays related to 'unnecessary procedures'.

The initiative of the Modi Government is commendable that the income tax authorities should treat the tax payers with humility. Also, if there is any inadvertent mistake in the income tax return from the tax payers, then it should be explained not by 'punitively' or 'intimidating', but by honorable way. Now it has to be seen how the officials of the Income Tax Department follow this understanding of the Modi Government. If the Income Tax Department officials treat the tax payers in a friendly manner, it is natural that doing so will not hurt the self-esteem of honest tax payers.
