Demand for change in Security Council once again requisitioned

Countries like India, Japan and Germany deserve to get permanent membership of the Security Council

SEP 28 (WTN) - The United Nations, the ‘Maha Panchayat’ of the countries around the world, whose headquarters in New York, representatives from member countries attend the annual United Nations annual meeting for the last 74 years there. Representatives of member countries meet and express their views at the meeting held every year. This tradition has been going on for the last 74 years and will continue. But the big question is that the political situation of the world was at the time of the establishment of the United Nations 74 years ago, is the same to the politics of the present time?

In response to this question, you will say that since the establishment of the United Nations, there have been a lot of changes in the politics of the world. When the politics of the world can change, then why not the structure of the United Nations should be changed? You must be thinking why are we saying this? Indeed, much has changed in the time of the establishment of the United Nations and today, and the situation demands that a change in the United Nations is also necessary.

For your information, let us know that the United Nations was established in the background of the Second World War. As you know, in the Second World War many countries suffered a huge loss of public and wealth. Most of the countries of the world were affected due to the Second World War, and the enmity between many countries caused tension in the then global politics. In such a situation, a forum like the United Nations was established to end this hostility, increase friendship between countries around the world and establish peace in the world.

The main objective of the establishment of the United Nations was to establish coordination and peace among countries around the world. Although, there are many parts of the United Nations, but the United Nations Security Council is considered to be the most powerful council in the whole world. For your information, let us know that countries like America, Russia, England, France and China played an important role in the formation of the United Nations, and when the United Nations Security Council was formed, these five countries became the permanent members of the Security Council.

As we told you that since the establishment of the United Nations, there have been many changes in the politics of the world. At the time of the establishment of the United Nations, the number of its member countries was 50, whereas today the number of member countries in the United Nations has been 193. But since then, there has been no change in the number of permanent members of the UN Security Council. At the time of the establishment of the Security Council, it had 5 permanent members, and even years later it has only 5 permanent members.

That means it is clear that only 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council remain the power centers of the whole world. Now that other countries including India have become economically and strategically strong and responsible, should the number of permanent members of the Security Council not be expanded, and some other countries including India should not be included in it?

The permanent members of the Security Council, America, Russia, England, France and China have always made decisions in the Security Council according to their interests and have used the veto power. Being a permanent member of the Security Council, these five countries get an opportunity to speak throughout the year, while the remaining member countries get an opportunity to speak only when the United Nations meets annually.

There was a time when the world was divided into two poles during the Cold War. There have been many changes in the politics of the world over time. From the disintegration of the USSR to the disintegration of Yugoslavia, the geographical position of the entire world has also changed. But even after this, there has been no change in the number of permanent members of the UN Security Council since its establishment.

Countries like America, Russia, England, France and China were powerful at the time of the establishment of Security Council, but now countries like India, Japan, Brazil, Germany and South Africa have progressed considerably over time. Given such changes in global politics, circumstances demand that the structure of the Security Council should be changed and countries like India, Japan, Brazil, Germany and South Africa should get permanent membership in the Security Council, which will lead to other Powerful countries also got the opportunity to speak their words and keep the balance of power in the whole world.

If the works of the Security Council are discussed in neutral, it is clear that the permanent members of the Security Council have at times cared for their interests, due to which the world has seen many wars and conflicts. At the same time, the role of the Security Council has not been more effective on issues like terrorism and human rights. According to one figure, there have been about 50 wars since the establishment of the United Nations, and these figures question the existence of the establishment of the United Nations and the Security Council.

From time to time, countries like India, Germany, Japan, South Africa and Brazil have been demanding that in view of the current global politics, the number of permanent members in the UN Security Council should be increased. It is clear that the expansion of the Security Council has become necessary to make the United Nations more effective. When countries like India, Japan, Brazil, Germany and South Africa become permanent of the Security Council, the dominance of the five big countries that have become power centers for years will be less, and by becoming the new permanent countries in the Security Council, the United Nations will be even more effective than before.
