MP girl mountaineer Bhawna Dehariya celebrates Diwali on Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak

Tanzania (Africa) 28 October 2019: 27-year-old Indian mountaineer Bhawna Dehariya from Tamia, Madhya Pradesh, hoisted the India's tricolor on the day of Diwali on the highest peak of continent of Africa "Kilimanjaro". Indian mountaineer Bhawna Dehariya scaled 5,895 meters above sea level i.e. 19,341 feet on Uhuru peak and gave a message to celebrate eco-friendly Diwali by keeping an earthen lamp on the peak on the day of Diwali, October, 27 2019.

She also appealed people to reduce the use of plastic and polythene on individual level keeping in view the environment safety.

Bhawna Dehariya, who studied MPED Masters in Physical Education from Bhopal, single-handedly completed the climb, during which she was accompanied by her guide from Tanzania. Bhawna started the track from Tanzania on October 23 and started the final ascent from the last Camp Kibo Hut at midnight 12 am on October 27 and completed the summit reaching to Uhuru peak, the highest peak of Kilimanjaro, at 7:43 am in 7 hours 43 minutes on 27th October 2019. As an Indian woman, this summit in such a short time is a record in itself.

Notably, Bhawna Dehariya had also climbed the world's highest peak Mount Everest (8848 m) on May 22 this year and feel proud for entire state of Madhya Pradesh as well as for India.- Window To news
