Decrease in physical activities Ieads to muscular pain An important social issues addressed in the recent celebration of World Physiotherapy Day by School of Physiotherapy, RK University With the evolution of Digital Age in the 21st century and adaptation by masses, there has been a steap decrease in the level of physical activities being carried out by people on day to day basis. On one end the human race is pushing the envelope of technology to make lives better and on the other we are forgetting the basic needs to stay fit. This is one issue that is prevalent on the global level. Due to this the importance of Physiotherapy has taken off to new heights in the recent times. Physiotherapy, is one of the most prominent branches of medical sciences today, serves to people with diseases and disorders of neurology, orthopedics, cardiopulmonary, & vascular, OBG, pediatric, Geriatrics, spr,,ts and many specialties in variety of health care settings, including hospitals, private practices, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, teaching institute, geriatric homes, sports, fitness and wellness centers. ln 1996, World Confederation of Physical Therapy (WCPT) introduced celebration of World physical Therapy Day on the day WCPT was founded in 1951, i.e. 8th September. The day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physiotherapy or physical therapy community. lt is an opportunity to recognize the work that physiotherapists or physical therapists do for their patients and community from more than 160 countries. Various activities are carried out as a part of pre & post WTP Day celebration on the theme designated by WCPT. This year, addressing the issues of increase in physical inactivities, "physical Activity for Life" and also with the g!"own threat of Swine Flue, soreading awaress regarding the same, was the theme. Students and Faculty Members from city based,'School of physiotherapy, RK University organized "A/alk-aThon and Cycl-o-Thon" nearthe Race Course in Rajkot, addressingthe "PhysicalActivityfor Life", spreading the positive effects of the same on health and wellness among people. More than 400 medicos including physiotherapists, students and faculty members participated in the drive. Moreover, various fitness challenges were organized in different schools of Rajkot, Gautam School, Gandhi school, Krishna lnternational School and many more, spreading awareness about importance of physical activity and precautions against Swine Flu among all students and teachers. "ln this digital age, it has become all the more important to stay fit with physical activities, as the expectation in forms are increasing. We at RK University, are very particular about the physical fitness of all our students & staff, so that they can pursue their career goals in the best possible rhanner. Yoga sessions, art of living sessions and activities such as theie are a regular practice at our university.", said Mr. Denish Patel (Executive Vice President, RK University) who himself is a fantastic badminton player, practicing each morning at the RMC indoor stadium.-Window To News
