Piaggio ventures into EV with Ape Electrik

New Delhi, Dec 18 (IANS) Italian two and three-wheeler major Piaggio has announced the launch of Ape Electrik, a vertical for electric vehicles.The company on Wednesday launched Ape E-City, the first product in the Electrik range at an introductory price of Rs 1.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).The e-auto comes with lithium ion batteries, an automatic gear box and swappable batteries. The vehicle does not feature gear and clutch.AAt the launch event here, the company also showcased the Ape E-City FX, a prototype with a fixed battery concept.A statement from the company said that Ape E-City customers will be given a warranty of 36 months or 1 lakh kilometers, whichever is earlier, along with free scheduled maintenance for three years.Piaggio would also offer an introductory three year annual maintenance contract (AMC) package at a cost of Rs 3,000, the statement said.
