DCM Shriram signs MoU with Rabobank & Rivulis

New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS) To provide further fillip to the water conservation measures being undertaken by DCM Shriram Ltd. under the aegis of its Sustainable Sugarcane Production Program, the company on Tuesday announced signing of the MoU with Rabobank and Rivulis Irrigation India Pvt Ltd.
The objective of the MoU is to achieve its goal towards Water Conservation through drip irrigation thereby increasing productivity which would lead to increase in farmer's income.
The proposed installation of the drip irrigation systems will cover an area of 5,000 acres in all four units of DCM Shriram Ltd. in all four units of DCM Shriram Ltd i.e. Ajbapur, Rupapur, Hariawan and Loni in Lakhimpur and Hardoi districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking at the MoU ceremony, Roshan Lal Tamak, ED & CEO - Sugar Business, DCM Shriram Ltd. said: "The project is being taken up with an aim to increase the yield while conserving water in cultivation of sugarcane. With this project, the cost of cultivation of sugarcane will be reduced along with conservation of water and fertigation thereby increasing the income of the farmers and also reducing the cost of Production."
The Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow which is an apex organisation of sugarcane Research in the country, has assessed and certified that due to various agricultural practices and water conservation measures adopted by DCM Shriram sugar factories in its catchment areas in Hardoi & Lakhimpur Kheri districts, there has been an water use avoidance of 275 billion litres of water during last three years.
