Fashion Lab gives hope to Tihar's women inmates

New Delhi:Tihar Jail and Pearl Academy have jointly set up a fashion laboratory at the prison under which women inmates will be encouraged to learn life sustaining skills.
The facility, a collaborative initiative between Tihar administration and Pearl Academy was inaugurated today at Jail number 6 (womens jail) of Tihar prison complex.
"It is a unique initiative to promote skill development among inmates. It will help the women inmates to learn life sustaining skills and will provide them with great opportunities to earn a livelihood after being released from prison," said Sudhir Yadav, DG Prisons.
Well-known fashion designer Reena Dhaka was also present on the occasion of launch of the Fashion Lab. A joint fashion show and a cultural programme was presented by the women inmates along with the students of the academy.
The course capsule will last for 45 days. It will be divided into three core modules, said a Pearl Academy spokesperson.
The academy, a leading institution for design, fashion and creative busines, will conduct 3 such capsule courses in one academic year and each batch will comprise 22 inmates, said the spokesperson. IANS
