3 Million Deaths every year due to alcohol: WHO

Around 23.7 crore men and 4.6 crore women are under influence of alcohol alcoholism and alcohol related diseases and due to this, 30 lakh people died each year due to harmful consumption of alcohol. Alcohol consumption is increasing in rich countries. One in 20 deaths around the world is due to alcoholism. World Health Organization (WHO) released a health report of 2018 yesterday, which states that alcohol is the leading cause of men's death. In the year 2016, three lakh people lost their life. WHO has also sought information about the measures to control the use of alcohol from many countries.

Dr. Tredose, the director general of WHO, said that the time has come to take big steps against this serious threat to the development of a healthy society. According to the report, 28 percent of all deaths due to consumption of alcohol per year are related to incidents of harmful use of alcohol, such as drunk and drive, domestic violence, self harming etc., 21% due to the failure of digestive system, 19 percent due to heart related diseases and the remaining deaths are due to cancer, harmful infections, mental illnesses and other health reasons.
Report also states that the excessive consumption of alcohol by the person includes his family also faces huge problems. He said that a large number of people and members of his family face difficulties due to alcohol consumption. A large number of people are being hit with cancer and paralysis due to excessive consumption of alcohol. Apart from this, due to the psychological condition, violent incidents in the society are also increasing.
