Mountaineer Bhawna’s inspirational goals to femmes during pregnancy

WTN- Having goals in her eyes to touch the highest peaks of the world since when she was seven, mountaineer Bhawna Dehariya Mishra who is 29-year-old today completed three expeditions crossing various hurdles, societal challenges and walls of economic crisis. Now, being a married woman and nine months pregnant, Bhawna has several important social responsibilities in front of her but compromising with her goals is not something in Bhawna’s dictionary.

Bhawna who hails from a small tribal village Tamia located near Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh dreamt of reaching the highest peak of the world Mount Everest while she was reading a chapter of Bachendri Pal in school. Thereafter, the path of her dreams was not easy for her. Targeting her dream, Bhawna started preparing to make it as goal of her life. She worked hard and completed all the initial steps required to be eligible for an expedition but as it is well said that nothing is a cake walk even if you are prepared for it. Facing the financial crunch, Bhawna looked for sponsorship and after patience of four years with interminable dedication she was given a helping hand from the Madhya Pradesh Government.

“I was on the ninth cloud when I really got the green signal to reach to my dream destination. It was worth waiting for years but the main challenge occurred during the expedition, my oxygen cylinder got started leaking which made me waited for an hour managing breathing in -45 degree Celsius. My Sherpa asked me to go back but my determination said ‘No’ . Then I borrowed oxygen cylinder from Sherpa and headed towards the peak alone as I had made many sacrifices to be on this trail and this could not make me weak”, says Bhawna.

Bhawna successfully climbed the highest peak of the world Mount Everest on May 22, 2019 and became first among the first women of the state to scale the peak. Thereafter, she never turned back and continued embarking on her mountain journey to mountain peaks of other continents. Continuing her voyage, Bhawna says “I unfurled the national tricolor flag on the occasion of Diwali on Kilimanjaro, the highest peak of the Continent of Africa. This was the most heart-touching moment of my lifetime.”

Notably, sports enthusiast Bhawna single handedly completed the trek starting from Tanzania on October 23 and reached the summit Uhuru Peak, the highest peak of Kilimanjaro on October 27. While other than this, she has climbed Mount Aconcagua, South America reaching height of 6500 meters on December 31, 2019; Mount Manirang, Himachal Pradesh, covering 6593 meters summit in August 2018 and Mount DKD 2nd (5670 meters) Ghadwal summit in 2017. Besides, she also holds Guinness World records for promoting the Himalayan Mountain Range worldwide during an online event organised by Coimbatore based Transcend Adventures and Snow Leopard Adventures on August 15, 2020.

Bhawna promoted two of the most prominent Indian festivals by showcasing Indian culture around the world including Diwali which she celebrated at Mount Kilimanjaro of the African continent and on occasion of colorful festival Holi in same year, she spread beautiful colors at the highest peak of Mount Kosciuszko in the continent of Australia.

The challenges did not stop here, there were many hurdles to cross for Bhawna further. She shares “When I headed towards my fourth summit to Mount Elbrus, the highest peak of Europe, the biggest challenge which was not only for me but for the whole country was arrival of covid-19. It made me knock off the expedition as all the international travels were suspended and countrywide lockdown was enforced in the countries. Thus, it is when I decided to give priority to my family goals balancing my professional and personal lives. I considered this the perfect time to plan for my baby in the meantime of my ambitions, as like every other woman I also wanted to have an amazing experience of becoming a mother someday. Also, being nine months pregnant, I utilized all of these significant months in working on my health and preparing myself for upcoming expeditions.”

“There is a mentality in our society that once a woman gets pregnant, she is ascendant to be solely dedicated towards her family compromising with her ambitions by taking a halt. Proving this frame of mind wrong, I have chosen the front seat having my goals still shining in my eyes. I am utilizing each moment for both my personal as well as my professional goals. I am determined to complete of all the seven peaks’ summits and this objective has only kept me encouraged during my pregnancy. I will continue my expedition in post pregnancy with the same zeal”, she adds to her statement.

Further she opines “Living in the Indian society, many women are forced to leave their dreams and goals behind after their marriage or after a baby. But, I had already decided before planning a baby that I would continue my goal of completing the summit of all the highest peaks of seven continents. Due to covid-19, I failed to complete the fourth summit but I believe that if you have the courage and determination then nothing is impossible in this world. Besides, I am also blessed with the supportive husband and my in-laws. Thus, I believe that I will become successful in my determined path that even my baby would also be a proud of me one day.”

“To all the women out there who had dreamt of something or was on a trail that was left incomplete after marriage, I would like to encourage them that life is one so give it a try once again to accomplish which was left behind unfinished, suggests Bhawna. - Window To News
