Weavers-led show commences AIFW A/W 2017
New Delhi March 15 (IANS) Led by weavers the Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) Autumn Winter 2017 started the day with the work of students of The Handloom School.
To amplify the long-term relationships between the weaving community spread across 11 weaving centres in India and the Indian Fashion industry The Handloom School supported by Good Earth in association with Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) showcased a collection made by its weavers in collaboration with ace designers.
The weaving centres are: Chattisgarh Varanasi Uttarakand Rajasthan Gujarat Chanderi Mobarikpur Orissa Bihar Telangana and Maheshwar.
The fashion extravaganza is being held here at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
With the background music of weavers working models walked the grass laden ramp barefeet with ruffled hair.
The ensembles ranged from tunics saris different pleats jumpsuits wrap around skirts in layers with coats and capes.
The colours ranged from hues of blue ivory to pale yellow.
The male models walked in quilted jackets jumpsuits in hues of blue pink yellow grey and black.
The weavers who created magic for the first show of Day 1 also walked the ramp in the end.
The show was also attended by Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday.
Thirteen key designers and labels that participated include Akaaro Antar-Agni Eka Good Earth Neeru Kumar Nicobar Pero Rajesh Pratap Singh Raw Mango Rohit Bal Suket Dhir Urvashi Kaur & and 11:11 Eleven Eleven.
This show is a great opportunity for The Handloom School graduates and its future students to synergise the potential of traditional and modern textile design. The event will also link these young artisans directly with the design world with strong support from Good Earth and The Handloom School Sally Holkar Founder of Women Weave and The Handloom School said.
AIFW A/W 2017 will end on March 18.
