Rain, thundershower likely in Odisha

Bhubaneswar Aug 29 (IANS) Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience rainfall and thundershowers following the formation of a low-pressure area during the next 24 hours the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday evening.



"Yesterday s low pressure area over over central parts of Odisha and neighbourhood now lies as a well marked low-pressure area over southwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood. It is likely to concentrate into a depression during next 24 hours over Gujurat and neighbourhood " an IMD bulletin said.

It said rain and thundershower are likely to occur at most places in districts of Odisha during next 24 hours.

"Heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over districts of coastal Odisha during the next 24 hours " it warned.

Strong gusty surface wind from the southeasterly direction in north Odisha and southwesterly direction in south Odisha with speed reaching 35-45 kmph to 55 kmph likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast.

The Met department advised the fishermen to be cautious while venturing into the sea as the condition of the sea would be moderate to rough.

Meanwhile several places in Odisha received rainfall on Tuesday. The highest rainfall of 46.2 mm was recorded in Malkangiri followed by 36.6 mm in Koraput 34.6 mm in Puri 31.7 mm in Khordha 30.2 mm in Nuapada and 29.0 mm in Nawarangpur.

Sundargarh received least rainfall of 3.4 mm.
