Dangerous for Bengaluru to be inundated with mere 3cm rainfall: IMD official

Bengaluru Sep 2 (IANS) It is "dangerous" to see a mere three cm of rainfall inundate the city India Meteorological Department s (IMD) Bengaluru chief said on Saturday a day after the deluge here.

"The rainfall received here yesterday was only a moderate one -- measuring upto maximum 3 cm in the city. But the fact that it could leave most of the city flooded is dangerous " Sundar M. Metri told IANS here.

The rain had left many of the localities in the Karnataka capital water-logged as most of the arterial roads were submerged.

"There is need for proper drainage system and channels for rain water to be directed towards the lakes and larger water bodies " Metri said.

Residents were stuck in heavy traffic snarls throughout the day on Friday.

On August 15 the city had witnessed the heaviest August rainfall since the 1890s that had wreaked havoc crippling normal life.

According to the IMD s prediction moderate rainfall is likely to continue in the city and the state over the next few days.
