Chandigarh Feb 17 (IANS) The Haryana government on Saturday launched four canteens which will serve subsidised and healthy food to the poor.



Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the food canteens at Faridabad Gurugram Hisar and Yamunanagar via videoconferencing from Chandigarh.

The canteens have been set up under the Antyodaya Aahaar Yojana to provide healthy nutritious and hygienic food at only Rs 10 per meal to all poor and needy a state government spokesman said.

Khattar said the food would be served to registered construction workers and all other needy persons between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.

"Each food packet weighing 730 gm will include four chapattis rice daal seasonal vegetables curd/raita green chutney and jaggery. Each food packet offering 1 150 calories will cost Rs 20 of which Rs 10 would be contributed by the Labour Department " the spokesman said.

The Chief Minister said that 23 more such canteens one each at the district headquarters except Gurugram and Faridabad would be established.

Construction of these canteens was expected to be completed by April-end.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nayab Singh Saini asked officials to regularly check quality of food these canteens will serve to construction workers and others.

The food canteens have been temporarily opened at the Women Training Centre building Dabua Colony Faridabad; Shelter Home of Municipal Corporation at Bheem Nagar Sector-5 Gurugram; Vishwakarma Dharamshala Auto Market Hisar; and Labour Shed near the ITI in Yamunanagar. These will be shifted to regular buildings once these are completed.
