Heart transplant patient stable, progressing well: Hospital

Kolkata May 22 (IANS) A man who underwent a heart transplant said to be the first such human-to-human surgery in eastern India is stable the hospital said on Tuesday.
Dilchand Singh 39 has been taken off assisted ventilation said a medical bulletin.
"Our transplant recipient is stable and continues to progress well " Fortis Hospital Medical Superintendent Arafat Faisal said in the bulletin.
"All medical parameters are satisfactory. His relatives have visited him and have been updated " the bulletin said.
According to the bulletin the patient is alert. He has been able to consume normal food and water.
His condition will be monitored for another 72-96 hours.
The kin of Singh who hails from Jharkhand feel the family of the donor a 21-year-old who died in Bengaluru has given a new lease of life to him.
"Once we are out of the hospital we will visit the donor s family. We will be connected with the family till the time we are alive " a relative said.
