When technology and imagination amalgamates inventions happens and, if it’s good for mankind it’s a blessing .In series to many innovations in medical science which give hope to human life "to live life more and with out fear", artificial Kidney is a break through.
World of medical science is working towards development of Artificial Kidney and it’s speculated to hit the market by the end of decade. With all sorts of test and clear through to use the device post approval from FDA, which is engineered in the US will appear as a revolution for common patient as its not expansive and will be affordable.
Dr Shuvo Roy, co-inventor of the device, said at the Tanker annual charity and awards night , “The device being engineered in the US will go through a series of safety and efficacy trials on hundreds of patients in that country before it is approved by the FDA. The device that can be implanted in the abdomen and will be powered by the heart is designed to filter the blood and perform other kidney functions, including production of hormones, and help assist in blood pressure control,Unlike conventional haemodialysis, which merely filters toxins from the blood, the artificial kidney has a membrane that filters the blood and a bio-reactor comprising living kidney cells that are exposed to the blood during dialysis". Dr Roy also said, "It performs the job of a kidney more holistically than just conventional dialysis".
This invention and development in the field of kidney is a boon, specially for country like India where almost 0.2 million people die due to kidney diseases.-WTN
