HC seeks Centre, Delhi response over doctors safety
New Delhi May 3 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Central and Delhi governments to inform it about the steps taken to provide safety to doctors.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Anu Malhotra s order came when they took suo motu cognisance of the issue after reading a news report that resident doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have decided to take self-defence classes.
The court expressing concern over the report that nearly one in every two doctors in state-run hospitals faced violence has listed the matter for May 19 for further hearing.
The report further stated that doctors will take self-defence classes from black belt champions in martial arts including taekwondo from May 15.
