Global Covid caseload tops 421.3 mn

Washington, Feb 19 (IANS) The global coronavirus caseload has topped 421.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.87 million and vaccinations to over 10.31 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Saturday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 421,348,262 and 5,872,338, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 10,317,284,055.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 78,372,010 and 933,808, according to the CSSE.
The second worst hit country in terms of cases is India (42,780,235 infections and 510,905 deaths), followed by Brazil (28,072,238 infections and 643,340 deaths).
The other countries with over 5 million cases are France (22,310,014), the UK (18,676,357), Russia (14,802,439), Turkey (13,266,265), Germany (13,361,053), Italy (12,323,398), Spain (10,778,607), Argentina (8,799,858), Iran (6,894,110), the Netherlands (6,052,374), Colombia (6,031,130), Poland (5,460,552) and Mexico (5,344,840), the CSSE figures showed.
The nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Russia (337,074), Mexico (314,128), Peru (208,622), the UK (160,946), Italy (152,282), Indonesia (145,622), Colombia (137,586), France (137,448), Iran (134,420), Argentina (124,924), Germany (121,038), Ukraine (110,698) and Poland (109,205).
