Conjoined twins separated at AIIMS stable

New Delhi Oct 30 (IANS) The 28-month-old conjoined twins from Odisha who underwent an 18-hour surgery at AIIMS last week are stable but "still very sick" the hospital authorities said on Monday.

An AIIMS statement said Jagga and Kalia would have to stay in the ICU for "seven to 10 days more or longer" depending on the need.

Doctors at the hospital successfully conducted India s first craniopagus surgery to separate Jagga and Kalia on Thursday.

The statement said their breathing condition and blood circulation were good.

"Jagga is showing response to some commands and is on dialysis to support his compromised kidney function."

A team of 15 consultations and 10 residents are looking after them under the supervision of two professors.

"They are also being looked after by plastic surgeons... We hope their condition would improve slowly over a span of 10 to 15 days " the statement added.
