HC raps police for failing to find JNU student
New Delhi March 16 (IANS) Delhi High Court on Thursday slammed the Delhi Police Crime Branch for its failure to find missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed even after a lapse of five months.
A division bench of Justice G.S. Sistani and Justice Vinod Goel said: Except for paperwork nothing else is happening.
The bench directed police to do whatever it needed to find the Jawaharlal Nehru University student missing since October 15 2016.
You do whatever you want to do to find him. Either find him out or say he is dead. We want results. We won t accept paperwork said the court and posted the matter for March 31.
During the hearing the police said all efforts are being made to trace Najeeb Ahmed. We are finding out if he has travelled abroad said police.
The court was hearing a habeas corpus plea filed by his mother Fatima Nafees that her son be produced by police and the Delhi government before the court.
Najeeb 27 an M.Sc. First Year student went missing from his JNU hostel on October 14-15 night allegedly after a row with members of RSS student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The ABVP has denied any involvement in his disappearance.
