India celebrates The National Mathematics Day Today in Remembrance of The Mathematical Genius Srinivasa Ramanujan

India celebrates The National Mathematics Day today, every year in remembrance of the mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan. The day 'December 22 has been declaration Dr Manmohan Singh, Ex-Prime Minister of India, during the inaugural ceremony of the celebrations to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan held at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium on 26 February 2012.

The Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan was born on 22 December 1887 and died on 26 April 1920. It was in recognition of his contribution to mathematics the Government of India decided to celebrate Ramanujan's birthday as the National Mathematics Day every year from the year 2012 onwards. As part of the celebration almost every school and university in India mark this day by holding various mathematical programs with the objective to uplift the young minds towards mathematics.

The very short-lived mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan made the idiom right to understand that "measure the span of life spend with not living long but living big".

The Indian mathematician who lived during the British Raj in India was strict Hindu with no formal training in mathematics, though he made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions, including solutions to mathematical problems considered to be unsolvable.

The epic work by the mathematician and guidance from the mentor-like English mathematician G. H. Hardy at the University of Cambridge, England opened the doors for the then young mathematician to paw the path to west, where the genius worked out the various extraordinary, groundbreaking new theorems, including some that his mentor Mr Hardy stated as, "had defeated him and his colleagues completely in addition to rediscovering recently proven but highly advanced results". .

Ramanujan prime, the Ramanujan theta function, partition formulae, and mock theta functions are the significant work done by the mathematics, opened entirely new areas of work and inspired a vast amount of further research.

Ramanujan credited work done by him and achievement to the Family Goddess. In his word, he said, "Equation for me has no meaning unless it expresses a thought of God". - Window To News
