“God has given me versatile voice”- Aman Trikha, The singing superstar !!
The singer was recognized after the music based reality show called ‘Sur Kshetra’ and is now considered as one of the finest singer in the industry.
What I know is that you don’t have a film background. Tell our readers about your journey to Bollywood? How did you land here? Did the music reality show Sur Kshetra’ help you in tuning your voice and future?
My journey towards singing started in 2005 when I was pursuing my engineering degree from Thakur College in Mumbai. One day I was sitting in a lecture, and humming when my partner noticed, got impressed and asked me to sing. Till then even I was not sure that I could sing.
After discovering that I could sing well, I started taking part in college competitions or wherever I got a chance and then I got selected for college cultural fest. I was chosen as the second best singer which was a huge boost to my morale and confidence.
After that one of my friends asked me to take my singing to the professional level and asked me to learn music and I opted for singing classes. Although it was very tough for me because I don’t have a filmy background nor I have a godfather in the industry but like every struggler, I used to take my recordings and DVD’s to all the composers. I used to wish that they would give me two minutes from their precious time so that I can show them my work.
Sur Kshetra helped me greatly because it made my doors wide open to Bollywood where everyone recognized me through television. Even Himesh Reshamiya noticed my passion for singing. During this musical programme in 25 episodes I sang different songs.
You have given so many hits to the film industry. How do you feel being on top now and being known to all superstars comparing from your initial days ?
It feels great to be known by people and whole industry. It is basically an impossible task to get into this industry. Your talent has to be complimented by someone may be a godfather or through divine intervention or a family which has a filmy background but I did not have any of these.
From my initial days, I was having the belief that I have that passion and fire in me and it will take me somewhere. Since I was not having any help my struggles were my own. I had to fight every situation that came in my way.
For whatever little I have achieved today, I have been always thankful to the almighty who has blessed me and have been very kind to me. It feels quiet remarkable and at the same time I had this feeling that there is a long way to go because the aim I pursue in my life is quiet big and deep.
Most or your hit songs are with Himesh Reshamiya. How has been your association with him so far? Are you working with him in any of the future projects?
Himeshji, as I mentioned earlier, has been the mentor of singers in Sur Kshetra. The relation between me and him is like a mentor and a student and I have always looked up at him for guidance. He precisely noticed and understood what kind of devotion and madness I have for music and singing. When Sur Kshetra shoot ended and we came back to India, he offered me my very first song Go Go Govinda which became a big hit.
My association with him after Oh my god had plenty of chartbusters like hookah bar, pon pon, gore mukhrah and within the span of four months; I had six super hits which was a great achievement for a new comer. His belief and trust paid off as all of the listeners all around the world comprehensively accepted my voice and loved it.
I recently worked with him in Prem Ratan Dhan Rayo singing two major songs Prem leela and Halo Re which received massive appreciation worldwide. I have been working for him nonstop. I have been touring since the time I know him and it has been a great experience. Whenever I meet him or go out for shoots with him I learn new things. He is the one who has made me a better singer.
You have also sung the popular BJP anthem Achchhey Din Aane Wale Hain, which became quite a hit during the run-up to the Lok Sabha Elections. How did you get that song and what do you feel about the song considering the current scenario?
Singing Achchey din aane wale hai was something which made me proud. It was my honor to sing for Prime Minister of India. It got this song through Piyush Pandey, head of ONM who got the project of this election campaign for 2014. My friend Pankaj Awasthi had called me and asked to sing. The lyrics of the song were difficult six to seven stanzas addressing the issues and agendas faced by the country.
We were given very short time to record song. In less than 48 hours, it was all done and this song was the first thing tweeted by Mr Modi when he won the elections. After delivering the song, we met Modi Ji and he loved the music and lyrics of the song. It was a memorable experience as you don’t get to sing for PM every day.
Most of your songs are for Salman Khan. Why Aamir and Shahrukh not included in your list?
It’s not like that I sing only for Salman but I proudly can say that some of my finest songs are from his movies. For Aamir, I sang a song in Satya Mev Jayte but I would love to sing for him more. It has been my long dream to sing for Shahrukh Khan. Since childhood I am his fan. I would love to lend my voice to him and I pray from all my heart to get this chance very soon.
Apart from this I also want to sing for Ranbeer Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. These are the guys who are really passionate about their work; I want to replicate same passion in my singing.
Going through your music background, the songs you have sung are mostly hip hop and rocking types and having less number of romantic ones. Are you limited to singing type or open for all type of tracks?
The choice of songs does not depend on the choice of the singers. Like as a singer I want to sing different type of songs and break the monotony of those peppy songs but the problem is most of the times you get stereotyped or type casted that one can sing limited songs only.
Whatever song I get I try to get in the skin of the song and since god has blessed me with this versatile voice it becomes easy for me to sing in different styles. I still believe that a lot has to come from my side and pushing my side harder to reach that point of perfection.
Last but not the least; our readers would like to know about your future engagements. What all projects you are working on in near future?
There are loads of songs coming up. One of them is a song in JP Dutta’s next; it’s a Punjabi wedding song. Many more songs are in pipeline and I am waiting for them to be released, so that I can share them with my fans and loved ones.
