Naushad Ali was born on December 26, 1919 in Lucknow city of Nawab. His father's name was Waheed Ali. Naushad studied the Indian music from Ustad Ghurbat Ali, Ustad Yusuf Ali, Ustad Babban Saheb. There was a time when Naushad Ali also used to repair harmonium.
Naushad used to like cinema from the time of silent films. In 1931, when Naushad Ali was only 13 years old the Indian cinema found the voice and music. At the age of 19, i.e. in 1937, Naushad came to city of dream Mumbai to try his luck in the world of music.
After coming to Mumbai, Naushad stayed with his colleague for a few days, after which he started living in front of the Broadway Theater in Dadar. There was a time In Naushad's life, when he slept on the footpath. Naushad first assisted the famous music director of those time Ustad Jhande Khan. In those days Naushad used to earn 40 rupees a month.
Naushad Ali started his musical direction in 1940 with the film Prem Nagar and in 1944 by giving stunning music to the songs of the film Ratan, Naushad stepped on the first stair of success. The music of 'Ratan' got 35 Silver Jubilee, 12 Golden Jubilee and 3 Diamond Jubilee Hits.
Naushad is known for giving a skilled form to classical music in films. In some films like 'Baiju Bawra', he gave the music of cultural melody in all the songs. For the music given in the year 1952 in the film 'Baiju Bawra’, Naushad Ali won the first Filmfare Award for Best Music Director in 1954.
Naushad was the first music composer who brought the Western Notation Culture in India. First time in India, he had included 100 musicians in his orchestra.
The songs of 'Mughal-e-Azam' were also illuminated with the music of Naushad and made a voice from 100 people in Chorus in the song 'A Mohabbat Zindabad'. In that era Naushad Ali used to set a new dimension in the world of music without technology, he used awesome sound effects in music. Noshad asked Lata Mangeshkar to stand in the bathroom and sing 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya' song for 'Eco Effect' in 'Mughal-e-Azam'.
Naushad Ali was honored with the honor of 'Dadasaheb Phalke' in 1981 for his contribution in Indian cinema. In the year 1992, he was honored with the 'Padma Bhushan' by the Indian government. Naushad was also a poet and he had written a book of Urdu poems called 'Aathwan Sur'.
Naushad Ali, who embellishes the glorious films like 'Baiju Bawra', 'Mughal-e-Azam', 'Mother India', with his stunning music had departed from this world on May 5, 2006.
