Will BJP win confidence motion in the Karnataka assembly?
MAY 19(WTN) - Today everyone's eyes are on Karnataka. There is only one question in everyone's mind whether the BJP Government will prove its majority in the Karnataka assembly or not. At 4 o'clock in the evening, the decision of the confidence motion will be decided. It will be decided that in whose faith, the BJP, with confidence, has formed its government in the Karnataka.

As you know, No party has got full majority in the Karnataka assembly election. Out of 224 seats in the Karnataka Assembly, elections were held in 222 seats. But the people of Karnataka did not give full majority to any party. BJP emerged as the largest party with 104 seats. But for the majority BJP had fewer seats. On the other hand, the Congress was at the second place having won 78 seats, the JDS coalition was at number three having won 38 seats.

When no any party was looking to get the full majority, Congress, on the day of counting, declared unconditionally support to JDS. After this the matter went to the governor. When no party has the absolute majority, then there is no guideline for this in the Indian constitution. According to the constitution, in such a situation, the governor will decide with his self conscience, he will call either the single largest party to form the government or a coalition.

The decision taken by the Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala keeping in view the old traditions, and he invited the BJP to form the government and gave 15 days time period to prove the majority. But the Congress and JDS objected to the Governor's decision, and Congress submitted a plea in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court made it clear in its judgment that as per the Indian constitution it is the discretion of the governor to whom he should call to form a government, in governor’s decision the court cannot interfere. But the Supreme Court reduced the governor's 15-day time period, given to prove the majority, to 4 pm today.

It is to be seen now that today at 4 o'clock in the evening, the BJP government in Karnataka could prove its majority, or else Karnataka Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa will resign before floor test. Today is very important day for Indian politics. Because, one side, Congress and JDS have alleged that the BJP has tried to buy their MLAs, but on the other hand, the BJP has just said that they would get a majority comfortably.
