Will Congress and JDS be together for five years?
MAY 22(WTN) - Tomorrow, on 23 May, JDS leader H.D.Kumaraswamy will take oath as the chief minister of Karnataka. As you know, no party has got full majority in the Karnataka assembly election, and then Congress has supported JDS. But before the formation of Congress and JDS coalition government in the Karnataka there is news of dissenting between both the parties.
According to the sources, it is certain that the agreement between the two parties has been shaped to make Kumaraswamy the Chief Minister for five years. But for the post of deputy chief minister, there are reports of differences between the two parties now. First of all, it is not sure how many legislators to be the deputy chief minister and the legislators of which community will be appointed as deputy chief minister.
Dalit Congress leader Parameswaran is believed to be the deputy chief minister in Karnataka. It is being said that a person of Lingayat society can also be appointed deputy chief minister. Lingayat community in Karnataka has been very effective and no political party can afford to resent the Lingayat society. Along with Lingayat, Muslim society has also demanded a Muslim deputy chief minister.
There may be dissonance on home ministry. Both DGP and chief secretary of Karnataka are the choice of former chief minister Siddaramaiah, which can lead to a dispute. Apart from the home ministry, there can also be differences between the two parties for the finance ministry as well, and the rest of the other important ministries.
Congress has 78 MLAs and JDS has 38 MLAs, it is believed that Congress can demand more share in the council of ministers. According to sources, 33 MLAs may be ministers in the Kumaraswamy cabinet, out of which 20 are from Congress and 12 from JDS quota.
In the Karnataka assembly election, both Congress and JDS had contested against each other, but both the parties have become one to keep the BJP away from the power. Both parties have come on a platform due to political compulsions. But we have to see how long the coalition will be existent. If differences arise between both the parties, it will be easier for the BJP to go for Karnataka in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
