‘Threatening alarm’ for BJP!
MAY 31 (WTN) - Is Modi wave going down in the country? Is this a ‘threatening alarm’ for the BJP? We are saying that because if the results of today's Loksabha by-elections are not counted then statistics show that the BJP had to face defeat in Loksabha by-elections. In the 2014 Loksabha election, BJP won 282 seats, but after losing in the Loksabha by-elections, held in time to time, the BJP's seats are getting less. The BJP could win only four Loksabha seats in the by elections after 2014, and has lost six seats.
The BJP has won only 4 out of 23 Loksabha bye-elections between 2014 to March 2018. The BJP could win by election in Beed, Vadodara, Lakhimpur and Shahdol seats, but BJP lost 6 seats: Ratlam, Gurdaspur, Alwar, Ajmer, Gorakhpur and Phulpur.
Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam seat was vacant after the demise of BJP's Dilip Singh Bhuria. The BJP gave ticket to his daughter Nirmala Bhuria. But Nirmala Bhuria defeated by Kantilal Bhuria of Congress by nearly 88,000 votes. This seat has been traditionally a Congress stronghold. Let’s talk about Gurdaspur seat of Punjab, this seat was vacant after the demise of BJP MP and actor Vinod Khanna (2017). The Congress had fielded its state president Sunil Jakhar from here. When the Loksabha by-election being held here, the Congress government had been formed in the state. Congress won this seat by 1.93 lakh votes.
Alwar seat of Rajasthan was traditionally the seat of the Congress. In the 2014 Loksabha election, Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, who is considered close to Rahul Gandhi, lost to BJP. After the demise of BJP MP Mahant Chandnath in the year 2017, BJP fielded Jaswant Singh Yadav in the election field. In the by-election, Bhanwar Jitendra Singh did not contest in the election and party gave ticket to Karan Singh Yadav. Congress’s Karan Singh Yadav won this by poll by winning near about 1.96 lakh votes. There was also a by-election held in Ajmer, another seat of Rajasthan. After the demise of BJP parliamentarian Sanwar Lal Jat in August 2017, BJP gave ticket to Ramswaroop Lamba. He lost to Congress candidate Raghu Sharma by more than 84 thousand votes. This seat is also the castle of the Congress. Here, Congress state president Sachin Pilot was MP in 2009.
Let's talk now of UP's prestigious Gorakhpur seat. This seat of UP was vacant after Yogi Adityanath became the chief minister of UP. In Gorakhpur Loksabha by poll Pravin Nishad won by near about 21 thousand votes, after the SP-BSP being ‘united’ to defeat BJP. This was the BJP's ‘crushing defeat’. There were also by poll in another seat of UP, Phulpur. This seat of Uttar Pradesh was vacant after becoming Keshav Prasad Maurya as the deputy chief minister of UP. In the bye election, Nagendra Singh Pal of SP won by near about 59 thousand votes.
Defeating in the by polls in 6 Loksabha seats is a lesson for the BJP. BJP has won in many assembly elections since 2014. But in the Loksabha by-elections, the BJP has suffered defeat. From 2014 Loksabha election to March 2018, there were 10 Loksabha by polls in BJP winning seats, in which BJP could win only 4 seats. If the Modi government does not pay attention to public related issues, then the 2019 Loksabha election can be ‘nightmare’ for the BJP and Narendra Modi.
