Governor rule in Jammu Kashmir imposed
JUNE 20 (WTN) - In Jammu Kashmir from today onward, the governor rule has begun. As you know, the BJP had withdrawn support from the PDP on Tuesday, after which the Mahbuba Mufti government, three-year-old Jammu and Kashmir government, fell. Mehbooba Mufti resigned from the post of Chief Minister after the BJP's withdrawal of support from the government.
The report of Jammu and Kashmir governor N.N.Vohra has been approved by President Ramnath Kovind. The governor rule will remain in the state for 6 months. Earlier on Tuesday, after discussions with all the major political parties, governor Vohra sent his report to the President for governing the governance under Section 92 of the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the fourth opportunity when the governor N.N.Vohra has imposed governor rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
For your information, let you know that former bureaucrat N.N.Vohra became the governor of Jammu and Kashmir on June 25, 2008. Vohra had sent a report to President Ram Nath Kovind to implement the governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir after the exit of the BJP from the coalition government and the resignation of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. On Tuesday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had assessed the ground situation of Jammu and Kashmir at his residence with a high level meeting with Home Secretary Rajiv Gaba and senior officers of the Intelligence Bureau and his ministry.
In Jammu and Kashmir in March 1977, governor's rule came into effect for the first time. At that time, L.K.Jha was governor. Then the state congress led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed withdrew support to the National Conference leader Sheikh Mahmood Abdullah's government. In March 1986, once again the governor's rule had to be imposed in the state for the withdrawal of support from the minority government of Ghulam Mohammed Shah of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Farooq Abdullah resigned from the post of chief minister regarding the appointment of Jagmohan as the governor of Jammu Kashmir. For this reason the governor's rule was implemented for the third time in the state. For the fourth time in October 2002 and the fifth time in 2008, the governor ruled in Jammu and Kashmir.
For the sixth time in the state, governor's rule came into force in 2014. After the demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, on January 8, 2016, the governor's rule was implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. During that period PDP and BJP had decided to evade government formation for some time.
Let you know that Jammu and Kashmir has a special status in the Constitution of India, so here the provision of governor and President Rule are different from the other part of India. Under Constitutional mechanisms of failure in the state, under Section 92 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, the governor may implement governor rule in the state for six months with the approval of the President.
