Both the houses have its different ‘special rights’
JULY 02 (WTN) - India is the world's largest democracy. The Indian democratic system is discussed in the whole world. There are two houses in the Indian parliament, which are called the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. But do you know? What are the difference between Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha? Lok Sabha
The lower house of the world's largest democracy is called the Lok Sabha. The term of the Lok Sabha is five years and before that, the President can dissolve it on the advice of the Prime Minister. According to the rules of parliamentary system, the money bill can only be presented in the Lok Sabha.
Members of the Lok Sabha are elected by public with secret ballot. The Lok Sabha can’t declare any topic in the state list as ‘national importance’. The process of removal of the vice president from his post can’t start from the Lok Sabha, for this, the Lok Sabha approves the proposal passed by the Rajya Sabha. The maximum number of members of the Lok Sabha can be 552. At present, 543 members are elected by the public in the Lok Sabha. While the president has right to nominate two people related to Anglo-Indian community.
Rajya Sabha
In the Indian parliamentary system, the Rajya Sabha is called the upper house. The Rajya Sabha is a permanent house, and one-third of its members retired after every two years and equally re-elected. The money bill can’t be submitted in the Rajya Sabha. The election of members of the Rajya Sabha is done on the basis of ‘proportional representation’ in the respective states.
The Rajya Sabha has right to declare national importance, any topic listed in the state list, through a resolution supported by at least two-thirds of the members present in the Rajya Sabha and voting on. Proposals for removal of vice president from his post can be started in Rajya Sabha only.
In the situation of dissolution of the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha approves the announcement of the emergency. There can be up to 250 members in the Rajya Sabha. The president has right to nominate 12 members in Rajya Sabha, while the election of 238 members is done by the legislators of the respective assembly. At present, the total number of members in the Rajya Sabha is 245. Of these 233 members are elected indirectly by the public, while 12 members are nominated by the president.
