TMC rejects offer, eyes on NCP
JULY 17 (WTN) – There is suspense in the post of deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha. According to the information, Trinamool Congress (TMC) will not nominate their candidate for the likely election for the post of deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha. During the parliament session, Trinamool Congress has made it clear in the meeting of the opposition parties that they will not nominate their candidate for the deputy chairman post of Rajya Sabha.
It was believed that TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy could be projected as the candidate of the opposition in the likely election for the post of deputy speaker of Rajya Sabha, but Sukhendu Shekhar Roy himself had paused the speculation on behalf of the party.
Section 89 (2) of the constitution clears that the post of deputy chairman, if vacant, should be filled as soon as possibly. It is believed that during the monsoon session of parliament, anyone can be elected in this post. But according to information received from the media, the president of all the parties will decide that who will be the common candidate of the opposition.
So far, no major initiative has been taken from the government on this issue, and it is believed that the opposition is waiting for a proposal from the government for this. But it is certain that no leader of Congress will be nominated as a candidate of the opposition for deputy chairman post of Rajya Sabha.
After the TMC's denial, it is believed that Sharad Pawar's NCP can be offered candidature. If this happens, and the NCP nominates Marathi speaking MP in the prospective election for the post of deputy chairman, then the Shiv Sena can give support to NCP.
For your information, let you know that at present BJP has 69 MPs in the Rajya Sabha and Congress has 50 MPs. After this, 13-13 MPs of AIADMK, TMC and Samajwadi Party are in the Rajya Sabha. There are only 4 MPs of the NCP in the Rajya Sabha.
According to information from the sources, NDA could project a BJD MP as common candidate for the post of deputy chairman post of Rajya Sabha. Nine MPs of BJD are currently in the Rajya Sabha. According to sources, the BJP is willing come back of BJD in NDA as partner. This is because the BJP is expecting the seats from the Hindi-speaking states to be reduced in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. In such a way, the BJP is seeing a partner in the form of BJD which can support the BJP in 2019.
