WTN- They cry hoarse against non-development and themselves play the role of biggest antagonists of development. The Naxals, with all their lofty ideologies gone awry, are now reduced to bloodthirsty warmongers and rabble-rousers who can’t see the world as it is, without colouring it with their brand of red. They are trapped in an obsolete superstructure of a utopian neverland which they can neither evade nor realign it with the current realities of life and society. Reluctant to revisit this fixation, this rigid adherence to an anachronism has not only damaged their lives but also throttled the possibilities of a progressive and developed society, the benefits of which they could be rightful partakers.
Development works worth billions are hung in balance or are stuck in inordinate delays and subsequent cost escalation due to the violence and disturbance the Naxals have wrought in the regions they have their sway. Albeit the cadre base has dwindled due to sustained flushing out of the insurgents and combing operations against them by the forces, as also the disinclination of the younger generation in being a part of this, but whatever remains of them is still a scar and a scum on development.
These impoverished and directionless guerillas make furtive attacks and covert ambushes to intimidate officials like cowards do, and ruin the future of the young boys and girls of their own ilk who want to get out of this regressive ideology that teaches killing people for doing their job. The governments in MP and Chhattisgarh are ready with mega development projects and lucrative rehabilitation offers for surrendering guerillas to fast-track the process of growth that several areas in these states urgently need.
People are fed up complying with the pervert wishes of these guerillas and eagerly want the light of development to reach them. The only roadblock between their dreams and their reality of deprivation is Naxalism. The government machinery could easily obliterate and ravage them, but it is only humanitarian concern that forces them to give time and space to the youth to join the mainstream. They have largely succeeded in bringing back the misdirected youth into positive engagements that have changed their lives but unfortunately, a section of them are still not being able to see the benefits of shunning violence and joining hands with the government in bettering their own situation and situation of their villages and their people.
Certainly, there are foreign hands in continuing the destabilising effort inside the country but ultimately the people of India are losers. The states of MP-CG offer ample opportunities for growth even as much of their bountiful natural resources still remain untapped and unexplored. If they get the right impetus it can open a goldmine for lakhs of youth, who could find good jobs and build a secured future for them. Roads, electricity, communication infrastructure, mobile telephony and internet, an adequate number of hospitals and doctors, schools, colleges and vocational training institutes and their trainers/teachers, banking services etc are the express needs of the hour that the remotest corners of the country deserve.
By killing a handful of poor government servants and thereby stalling the establishment and penetration of these basic facilities of life, the Maoists are not only living a wretched life themselves but are leaving in the dark a whole generation of prospective scientists, doctors, officers and leaders who could change the destinies of millions of those who have long forgotten to see light.
