Happy Independence Day: Right way to hoist Indian National Flag ‘Tiranga’

Aug 14 (WTN) India will celebrate its 72 Independence Day tomorrow. Every Indian citizen feels proud and keen to hoist our national flag ‘Tiranga’. But there are some rules and laws under which hoisting of national flag should be done. You need to aware of the rules because wrong method or process of hoisting is a punishable offence.
Hoisting of our National Flag is a fundamental right granted to the citizens of India but one should only allowed to fly the National Flag with respect and dignity. Certain rules and laws are defined in Flag Code of India, 2002—which says, “a perceptible lack of awareness is often noticed...in regard to laws, practices and conventions that apply to the display of the National Flag.”
Displaying and flying our national flag Tiranga is governed by two Acts, namely, The Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 and The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. Here are some Do’s and Don’ts
Do’s
National Flag “Tricolour” should be made of hand-spun and hand-woven wool/cotton/silk and should be rectangular in shape with a length width ratio of 3:2.The saffron band should always be the topmost then white and then green band. If we are using our flag to displayed on a speaker's platform, it will beon the speaker's right as he faces the audience or flat against the wall, above and behind the speaker,” according to the Code.
Commonly seen nowadays many of us waving national flag made of paer and plastic sheets on several occasions is ok but these cannot be thrown on the ground once the event ends. Model Code stated “It shall be destroyed as a whole in private, preferably by burning or by any other method consistent with the dignity of the Flag.”
When displayed in public, the Flag should only be flown from sunrise to sunset.If the Flag is in a damaged or soiled condition, it should be destroyed
Don'ts
Always avoid use of damaged or disheveled Flag for display.It should also not be dipped in salute to any person or thing.
No one can commercially use Indian National Flag by using own rademark design, without the government's permission.
National Flag never be flown at half-mast. But on dismissal of any person holding constitutional position then on occasion of state or national condolence, this rule is not applicable.
The Flag is not to be used to cover anything during an occasion or normal course. No one can use It as a portion of a costume.
It should not be allowed to touch the ground or the floor or trail in water.
The Flag should not be displayed or fastened in any manner as may damage it.
Besides this if violation found in case of dishonor of National Flag then any one shall be “punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.”
