Use of Biofuel will reduces operational cost of the flight by 20%
SpiceJet successfully tested a flight flying with biofuel today from Dehradun to Delhi. On Monday, the plane Took off at Dehradun and landed at Terminal-2 of Delhi Airport where Union Minister Dr Harshvardhan, Nitin Gadkari, Dharmendra Pradhan and Suresh Prabhu were present to welcome the aircraft. 75% of air turbine fuel was mixed with 25% biofuel in the aircraft. Bio-Fuel is made from Jatropha (Ratanjot) seeds. This experiment has been successful in developed countries like America-Australia. This will reduce the cost of the flight by 20%.

In 2012, Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) had successfully used flight of biofuel with the help of Canada, but this time India successfully completed the experiment on its own. This 78-seater aircraft was present in the IIP director Anjan Ray, Chief of Catalyst Division Anshu Nanawati, Project Officer of Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, Sumit Government and many officers associated with the project were present.
SpiceJet finally prepared for the flight while other airlines shown interest earlier. SpiceJet has plane of the same engine, in which biofuel has been used successfully in other countries.
For preparation of this flight last one and a half months, 20 people have been working day and night. In this flight 300 liters of biofuel and 900 liters of ATF filled in aircraft’s right wing. In the left wing, 1200 liters of ATF got reserved for situation of Emergency.
By the use of Biofuel Flight operating costs will be reduced by 20 percent and every year 4000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions will be saved.
